Our History

Furnace Run Chapel is a non-denominational church that is real, relevant, and reaching out. The building which now serves as the fellowship hall had its beginning in 1878 as the Moore school. In 1914 using the existing school building Rev. John Moore began an American Sunday School Union Sunday School. In 1954, Furnace Run Chapel grew into a church organization. Then in 2019 under the leadership of Pastor James Edwards the church expanded, added a new modern church building, renovated the existing building into a fellowship hall and added a covered outdoor fellowship area for summer activities. In 2025 Pastor Edwards retired from full time ministry and was replaced by Pastor Clair Knappenberger. As a church committed to being real, relevant, and reaching out, we plan to continue the legacy that was started so many years ago by continuing to preach and teach the Biblical truths of God’s Word and by reaching out to our community and the world with the saving message of Jesus Christ.
